David Martens to be Inducted Into NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame (posthumously)
Longtime Fairport Central School District Athletic Administrator and first NYSAAA President, David Martens, has been selected to be inducted into the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame (posthumously) this coming August in Lake George, NY. This was recently announced by Nina Van Erk, CAA, Executive Director of the state athletic association. David's passed away in November of 2010 after a long illness. He was one of the original "founding fathers" of the NYSAAA and its first president, along with being president of the National Interscholastic Administrators' Association as well.
Among his many awards and recognitions, David has been inducted into the NIAAA Hall of Fame and the Springfield College Hall of Fame. He has also been awarded the National Federation Citation, the NIAAA Distinguished Service Award and the NIAAA Award of Merit, to name a few. David also founded the NIAAA National Emergency Network and remained its chair until his death. He also served as the NIAAA State Liaison from NYS since its inception. David's family will accept the award and represent him at the induction ceremony.
